Golfing Breaks -
Take the opportunity to benefit from the Weekend Break Rates available (when sharing twin rooms)
"The best opening hole in the World.'' - so stated Jack Nicklaus of the drive across the Atlantic at Machrihanish. This world famous Championship links course, established in 1876 and re-designed by Old Tom Morris, is only a ten minute drive away from Craigard. Golf Monthly Top 100 UK & Ireland Courses for 2011 – ranked 37. And remember, guests of Craigard House Hotel benefit from 10% discount on Green Fees at Machrihanish GC – see www.machgolf.com
Another classic links course, Machrihanish Dunes, opened in July 2009 - to the North of the existing course. This, the first links course to be built on the West Coast of Scotland for a hundred years, was designed by David McLay Kidd, who was responsible for the new Castle Course at St Andrews, as well as Bandon Dunes in Oregon, which is ranked in the top 40 courses in the world. Golf Monthly Top 100 for 2011 – ranked 91 - see www.thewaygolfbegan.com.
There is also Dunaverty Golf Club nearby, another links gem at the south end of the peninsular. Always beautifully kept, it is a friendly and relaxed club and very good value. It is not a long course, but is still an excellent test of golf, beloved of high and low handicappers. See www.dunavertygolfclub.com
Golfing Breaks can also benefit from Weekend Break rates where applicable - see above – or speak to Lori or Roger about group rates or any local information or transport arrangements you may need.
Kintyre Way Breaks -
Weekend Break Rates are available at all times of the year – and can often be extended to weekdays – depending on demand (or speak to us about group bookings for this year or next).
Several walking groups have made the decision to base themselves at Craigard for the duration– feeling that they deserve a little comfort in the evening (such as a long hot soak – every room has bath & shower - with huge fluffy towels & bathrobes) after a long day's walk. There is also the benefit of a cosy lounge bar, fine restaurant serving delicious local produce, with daily specials, super breakfasts and packed lunches.
Groups can use the excellent local taxi network to ferry them out in the morning to their chosen section, and to collect them later as required. This obviates the need to transport heavy kit from place to place. Please enquire about group discounts and one stop shop for transport bookings etc. Kintyre Way Breaks can also benefit from Group rates or Weekend Break rates where applicable - see above.

Malt Whisky Break -
Another good reason to come to Kintyre are the wonderful Distilleries based in the town. J&A Mitchell's Springbank Distillery is the only Distillery in Scotland to carry out the full production process on one site. Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn all have their own definitive style using three different production methods. Mitchell's Glengyle Distillery also creates Kilkerran Malt Whisky. A number of wood expressions are bottled in limited editions and the Cadenhead Whisky Shop in Longrow carries a vast range of Springbank and specialist bottles. Tours are available at 10am and 2pm Mon-Fri. And also on some weekends. Also nearby is Glen Scotia Distillery, with a
number of expressions from which to choose. It is possible to arrange a Whisky Tasting event within the hotel – given advance notice – and agreement with Springbank.
